Been a minute since I posted. Pessimism is why. We’re a week from game day, and honestly, until yesterday I was a bit concerned. But hey, this blog isn’t just for the sunny days. It’s for the full experience. Speaking of sunny days, any of y’all in Texas that are reading this I hope you’re not melting. Stay safe!
Anyway, back to the pessimism. I love me some ground attack! I was having a pretty tough time with our running back problems — the loss of CJ Baxter and Christian Clark had me in a bit of a tail spin.
But, in the words of our illustrious leader Sark, we’re #ToughAllDay. I find Sark’s Instagram feed pretty inspiring — something I’ll write another post about..
In trying times we need to do what needs to be done. Looking at position changes. Looking at the transfer portal. And the transfer portal has produced the goods. It looks like we’ve found a bit of clout and depth.
Pulling Velton Gardner from Kansas’ Jayhawks is a great steal. I haven’t watched much Jayhawks football and I’m unfamiliar with his game. But sheesh. Kid’s got wheels!
I’m not saying that Velton’s the answer to all our problems. But it is encouraging.
There’s a bunch of noise about Quinn Ewers being a Heisman contender this year. I’m sorry, but I just don’t see it right now. I need to see a real solid smoking of Colorado and a no-holds-barred trip to Ann Arbor for that to change.
We have a strong receiving corps. I want to see deep balls connecting. Yardage after catch was a big part of a passing offence contributing 288y per-game avg. last year.
Rushing avg was 188y per game. A chunky number. That’s why I’m pleased to see some depth back in the RB room with Velton.
Maybe my Britishness is shining through a bit here. We’re known for our “glass half full attitude”. But, I am hopeful — I will say that.
Hook ’em.
